Yo Dudes - Get Rude!

No-one seems to remember this cartoon, but Rude Dog and the Dweebs was one of the highlights of the 'Going Live' Show in the UK in the early 1990s. Rude Dog was a wise-cracking canine who was rude in the sense of being a smart-mouth but also in the sense of being the coolest kid on the block! The cartoon was priomarily desinged to sell surf gear and sportswear for Sun Sportswear Inc, I don't think there was really a big market for this in the UK, but we loved the cartoon anyway! The show only ran for one season, and looking back the cartoon is pretty poorly animated, it looks as though it has been made on a shoe-string budget, but for me this adds to the uniqueness of the cartoon and fits in with Rude Dog's edgy character.
Rude Dog's pink and Black eyes seem to change randomly throughout the cartoon and th ebackground's are pretty sketchy, but the cartoon itself is pretty funny. The cartoon itself only ran for one season of 26 ten-minute episodes and I don't know whether this is true or not, but lots of sites suggest that one of the reasons the cartoon was shut-down was that Rude Dog looked very much like a character being used to promote a popular beer in  America at the time, called Spuds McKenzie.

Rude Dog

Rude Dog

So the hero fo the cartoon is a bull terrrier called Rude, that drives a cool pink cadillac, owns an auto repair shop and owns a delivery company called 'Rude Dog Deliveries' with the catchy motto - 'Need a Delivery - Get Rude!' The show was set in Beverly Hills, but Rude himself had a Brooklyn, wordly-wise accent, he also had a girlfriend called Gloria.
The show often focused around Rude Dog having to make a delivery and getting into some sort of adventure, or alternatively he had to help out some of his friends/workers . . .  the Dweebs!

The Dweebs

The Dweebs

The Dweebs are a bunch of misfit dogs that live with and work for Rude Dog (in the auto-repair shop mainly), but also rely on his street-smarts to save them form the vagaries of the world outside. Lots of the cartoons revolve around Rude Dog pulling the Dweebs out of trouble or teaching them to be cool.
The Dweebs included Caboose, Reggie, Winston, Tweek, Kibble, Barney and Satch.

Rude Dog - Seymour

Seymour

Seymour is probably the closest thing that the Dweebs have to an enenmy. He's a mean alleycat that is constantly harrassing the Dweebs and looking to take advantage of their dweebiness! However there was one other character that even Seymour was scared of . . .

Rude Dog Herman and Rott

Herman and Rott

Herman Rockbottom is the real bad-guy of the show. Herman is a dog-catcher, and along with his huge god Rott he is determined to capture the dweebs and put them in the pen - but Rude Dog always wins the day!

Rude Dog

Gloria

Gloria was Rude Dog's girlfriend. Sorry I don't have a picture of her!! But she definitely featured in 'Waiter there's a dweeb in my soup!'

Rude Dog Caboose

Caboose

Caboose always stuttered and had an all consuming fear of trains!

Rude Dog Dweebette - Kibble

Kibble

Kibble is the only female dweeb (the dweebette), I'm not sure if she was meant to be Winston's sister?? She looks very much like him but this was never mentioned in thes series, however she was definitely as clever.

Rude Dog Winston

Winston

Winston is a cut above the rest, he quotes poetry speaks with a British accent, carries a monacle in his collar and is probably the cleverest of the dweebs, or at least he likes to think so!

Rude Dog Barney

Barney

Barney was brought up on a farm, and he often played with farm animal toys, he even made chicken noises when he slept!

Rude Dog Satch

Satch

Satch was the goofiest of the Dweebs, he was easily duped and not all there at all!

Rude Dog Tweek

Tweek

Rude Dog definitley had a soft-spot for Tweek, as Tweek was the youngest and probably the wimpiest of the Dweebs. Tweek was always getting bullied by Seymour and would often stick close to Rude Dog.

Rude Dog Reggie

Reggie

Reginald or Reggie was a bit like Rude Dog in looks, and he also sounded suspiciously like him as well!
