Cartoons from the 1980s and 1990s

Pigeon Street! at the Cartoon Archive

Here are the People That You Will Meet!

Pigeon Street is another one of those cartoons that has reached such cult status it is hard to beleive that there were only ever 13 episdoes made. I think that Pigeon Street was also on BBC at some strange time of day here in the UK, as the only memory I have of watching it was when I was off school sick, so it must have been on at lunch-time maybe?
The cartoon itself is very gentle to watch, it basically follows the lives of the inhabitants of Pigeon Street, a terraced street near a park in an un-specified city. The inhabitants go about their day to day lives, and we watch this, generally swapping focus from one character to another via shots of the pigeons. The pigeons and their cooing are ever present throughout the cartoon, but only actually fetaure in a couple of storylines, (those involving Bob).
Each charatcer had their own signature theme tune, song and dance (a little bit like the Bod characters did) and as such each episode often involved this stock footage being played once or twice. Pigeon Street is a really enjoyable and relaxing cartoon to watch back again now, it's a shame they only made two seasons.

Pigeon Street:Lyrics

If you lived in Pigeon Street,
Here are the people you could meet,
Here are the people who would say
Hello, Goodbye, Hello, Goodbye
Every day
If you lived in Pigeon Street,
Here are the people you could meet,
Here are the people who would share
the sights, the sounds, the air
Where pigeons beat their wings, wings beat.
Pigeons beat their wings, wings beat
to meet in Pigeon Street
