Jimbo and the Jet Set at the Cartoon Archive

Jimbo!

Jimbo and the Jet Set was created by Peter Maddocks (who also created the Family Ness). Just like the Family Ness, Jimbo was a really creative, wacky and good quality cartoon with another equally catchy intro theme!
OK, so first off you just have to accept that planes, fuel trucks, baggage handling machines etc. are alive and can all talk, once you've done this then you're settled in for the main storyline! This being that Jimbo was meant to be a new Jumbo Jet for the Air Controller's fleet, however as we find out in th efirst episode 'The Little Big Problem', the engineers mistook inches fo centimetres and so Jimbo is a perfectly proportioned plane, just a little bit on the small side!

Jimbo

Jimbo

Named Jimbo as he is half a Jumbo! Jimbo is the star of this cartoon. Although he's small he's got the heart of a lion and is brave, courageous and kind. The basic premise of most of the cartoons is that Jimbo gets into some crazy adventure through either delivering his cargo or helping someone en route, but everything usually turns out ok in the end. There are some funny idiosyncracies about tthe fact he is a plane such as he lands by skidding on his feet and closing his eyes and when he goes into auto-pilot, such as in 'The Chief Gets a Rocket' he goes into some sort of hypnotised state (ie he goes cross-eyed).Jimbo also has a love interest that we don't really see much in the cartoon, but she is another Aeroplane called Gloria Gatwick!

The Chief!

London Air Controller - 'the Chief'

The Chief as Jimbo calls him is the air-controller for the airport where Jimbo lives which is called the 'London Airport'. The chief controller is really the only other main, recurring character within the cartoon. He basically gets very exasperated by Jimbo's antics and is often heard to say 'Jimbo where the blazes have you been?!?' at the end of each episode. However throughout the 25 episodes of the series we get to see that the chief has a heart of gold and cares for Jimbo really!
Bizarrely for a cartoon that only had 25 episodes there are a lot of other air-controllers featured! So for fun I have added some of these to the page below.

Tommy Truck and Amanda Baggage-Handler

Throughout the series there are probably three other characters that we see on a regular basis two of which are above. They are Tommy Truc, who is a bit old for the antics of Jimbo and probably sees the small plane as a bit disruptive to his quiet life! Also there is Amanda Baggage Handler who is secretly in love with Jimbo!

Jimbo - Freddy FireTruck

Freddy Fire Truck

The other member of the London Airport Family is Freddy Fire-Truck. Freddy is always ready for action and basically likes to be the hero and come to the rescue when anything goes wrong.

This is actually the Chief's Nephew who comes along to London airport to apprentice with his uncle in 'The Controller's Apprentice'

Jimbo - Scottish Controller

Scottish Controller

As seen in 'Jingle Bells Jimbo', he looks suspiciously like McToot from the Family Ness to me!

The Intro:

Lots and lots of people just going 'JIMBO!'

(It's a lot catchier than it sounds!)
