Jamie and the Magic Torch! at the Cartoon Archive

Follow Jamie To Cloud Cuckoo Land!

Jamie and the Magic Torch was still showing on UK tv in the early 80's when I was a kid and it reminds me a lot of the later cartoon, Potsworth and Company. The story is very simple,  everynight Jamie's mum tucks him in bed saying 'Sleep Well, Jamie!'. No sooner has she closed the door than Jamie's dog Wordsworth jumps out from under the bed with a torch in his mouth. Jamie shines the torch on the floor and being a magic torch it creates a portal into another dimension, a place called Cloud Cuckoo Land, a 70s inspired dreamworld of acid colours, flares and music!
Jamie and Wordsworth slide down a huge helter-skelter and emerge in a range of different locations across Cloud-Cuckoo land. There are lots of colourful inhabitants that involve Jamie in their zany adventures, which are generally all wrapped up in about 10 minutes! After which they would go back up the helter-skelter to Jamie's bedroom and his mum would say ' Settle Down in there Jamie! Come on Wordsworth - Out of There!'
Cosgrove Hall also created such cartoon greats as DangerMouse and Count Duckula!

Jamie and the Magic Torch: Lyrics

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie and the Magic Torch.

Down the helter skelter, faster and faster towards Cuckoo Land.

Wordsworth, Wordsworth following hard behind.

Ready for adventure, always there to lend a paw .....or hand.

Mr. Boo and all the others too, the strangest people you've ever seen.

And the torch with its magical beam if I hadn't really been there I'd think that I was dreaming!

Jamie, Jamie! No two nights are the same.

And life is one long glorious game with Jamie, Jamie and the Magic Torch!
