Henry's Cat! at the Cartoon Archive

You Must Know Henry's Cat!

Henry's Cat was a cartoon base d around the adventures of a cat, name unknown! All we know is that he is Henry's Cat. We never see Henry, and apparently he is based on a character from an earlier cartoon developed by the writers Stan Hayward and Bob Godfrey called 'Henry 9 to 5'. Henry's Cat is verymuch his own man, he appears to live alone in a cottagfe and has a fantastic network of friends (and a few enemies!). Henry's Cat is probably one of the most sedate cartoon characters that you will fin out there, he loves to watch television, or read a book and then inspired by this really ponder the  mysteries of life. Henry's Cat loves to eat, think and sleep - but when he's not doing this he has some bizarre adventures either with his friends in reality or in his day-dreams. If Henry's Cat had a nemesis it would be the Sheep Rum Baba - who appears in several episodes, determined to cause Henry's Cat trouble, of course he never gets the upper-hand. If you think that the styleof the cartoon looks familiar, Bob Godfrey the director, also produced the cartoon Roobarb, about the adventures of an equally funny (but slightly more energetic!) dog which is well worth looking up if you've never seen it before! The cartoon went through several different theme tunes, I've put the instrumental opening an dthe opening with lyrics on here, so that you can compare th etwo - some people love the lyrics (including me) others hate them!

Henry's Cat

Henry's Cat

Henry's Cat is a very relaxed feline. He loves to day-dream and ponder on the universe around him. When the series started off the episodes were just five minutes long and the backgrounds were largely blank space. The opening theme tune was also instrumental. Apparently looking down Henry's Cat's face spells the word MIOW! - (ears=M; eyes=I; nose=O; mouth=W)

Chris Rabbit

Chris Rabbit

Chris Rabbit is Henry's very frenetic friend, he constantly looks as thoguht he's had about 15 cups of coffee! As the series progressed the episodes became longer, th ebackgrounds became more detailed and by series four the cartoon had it's own opening lyrics!

Denis Duck

Denise Duck

Inth efirst episdoe we are introduced to many of Henry's Cat's friends, as he thinks about the hobbies that they like..... Denise likes to water-ski!

Ted Tortoise

Ted Tortoise

Ted is training to be a boxer.

Douglad Dog

Douglas Dog

Douglas like to fly his kite.

Pansy Pig

Pansy Pig

Pansy is a fantastic gymnast!

Constable bulldog

Constable Bulldog

Constable Bulldog is neither Henry's Cat's friend nor enemy, he is often called by his duty to reprimand Henry's Cat and his friends for their various shennaningans but other than this he is harmless! We are told in episode one that he also likes flower arranging!

Sammy Snail

Sammy Snail

Sammy Snail is training to be a tight-rope walker. Unfortunately at the minute I don't have any videos with Fillipe the Frog, Farmer Giles or Rum Baba in them, but as soon as I do I will add their pictures. I can tell you that Fillipe the Frog likes to play under-water guitar!

Henry's Cat: Lyrics

Henry's...[Meow]
Henry's...[Meow]
You must know Henry's Cat!
You must have seen the movie,
You must have read the book,
He's the mellow, yellow feline,
So take a second look!

He knows everything about nothing,
But not to much about that!
So if you know someone who knows what he knows,
Then you must know Henry's Cat!
[Meow!]
