Duck Tales featured Scrooge McDuck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. Scrooge was a miserly, mega-rich nephew of Donald Duck, that looked after his three troublesome nephews, who were always either getting into trouble, or under-taking treasure seeking adventures. The show ran for 100 episodes, and was so successful it spawned two spin-off series, DarkWing Duck and the Quack Pack. The show also had a feature length film made: Duck Tales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
The cartoon featured a full cast of characters including Launchpad McQuack, Ms Beakly, Gyro Gearloose and Gizmo. Donald actually only appeared in a couple of the episodes ( the basis of the show was that he had joined the navy & so left his nephews with Scrooge). Duck Tales was a big risk for Disney, it was one of the first ‘for tv cartoons’ that the company had made ( other than Gummi Bears, which had received limited success). The company poured a large budget into DuckTales and as such made a really good-quality animated tv series.
Huey, Dewey and Louey
These three are the nephews of Donald Duck. Donald has been called to serve in the navy and so he has left them with his brother, Scrooge McDuck. The three are forever getting into trouble and getting told off by Scrooge, but often when they are not around we see that he loves them really!
Scrooge McDuck
Scottish brother of Donald Duck and also a lot richer. Donald seems o be the only duck that has a speech impediment, Scrooge has got a Scottish accent, but other than this all the family speak very clearly, unlike Donald! Other members of Scrooge's household included Mrs Beakley the nanny, DuckWorth the Butler and Mrs Beakley's grand-daughter Webby VanderQuack.
LaunchPad
Launchpad McQuack was a slightly dim-witted pilot, that helped the nephews in many of their adventures, what he lacked in brains he made up for in courage!
Gyro
Gyro GearLoose was the slightly wacky professsor, that was constantly coming up with bizarre inventions, many of which would mis-fire or lead to unintended consequences that were the beginning of a DuckTale for the boys.
Magica
In terms of the bad guys, Magica de Spell was probably the main villain, alongside the Beagle Boys opposite (although they were more henchmen). The only other major villain that I couldn't fit in here was FlintHeart Glomglod (the second richest duck in the world - after Scrooge! He is essentially a version of Scrooge with no morals what-so-ever). Magica is a witch/sorceress who is after Scrooge's 'number one' dime - she believes this will help her to become as rich as Scrooge
Beagle Boys
The Beagle Boys are dim-witted villains that are part of the Beagle family, including Ma Beagle, the Beagle Brats, the Beagle babes and BlackHeart Beagle. They come from a long line of villains and were portrayed in many cartoon strips prior to the Duck Tales show.
In Duck Tales their names bizarrely keep changing as the storyline requires initially they are Bigtime, Burger and Bouncer, but sometimes instead there is Baggey, Bankjob, BabyFacem Bebop. BigTime is always the leader when they are on a job, (otherwise the clan is lead by Ma Beagle and also MegaByte - who is the brains of the clan).
