Button Moon! at the Cartoon Archive

I must admit that Button Moon is at the very edge of my conscious memory. I can vaguely remember ‘We’re off to Button Moon’ being spoken on the tv, but I never really appreciated the show being only two or three years old at the time. However, as with many cartoons from this era it’s bizarre, quirky and remembered fondly by many people out there.
The show was made in the late Seventies/ Early Eighties and a total of seven series were made, (around 90 episodes). The most bizarre thing about Button Moon, was that as the name suggests all the backgrounds, props, houses and even cast were made of everyday objects. Do you remember all of those days as a kid when you would save up Washing-Up Liquid bottle and bottle caps to make spaceships and moon-bases etc. Well this is exactly what John Thirtle, the cast and set designer did. The moon was a button and Mr Spoon’s spaceship looks remarkably like a Baked Bean Tin with Go-Fast Stripes.
Essentially Mr Spoon and his Family would fly to Button Moon ( in Blanket Sky) every episode to visit their friends. All sorts of adventures and shennanigans would occur. Occassionally if there wasn’t much happening on Button Moon, Mr Spoon would use his telescope to look down at Earth ( especially at Brew the Witch who was always up to some mischief)
