Bucky O’Hare is by far the cartoonarchive.com’s favourite intro sequence! It’s got everything that you could want from a classic cartoon intro: Great Rhyming Chorus, Uplifting guitar rifts, Karaoke potential and lots of great characters!
Captain Bucky O’Hare is set in a parallel universe(the aniverse), which is populated by a variety of sentient animals. A boy from Earth (Willy DeWit) has somehow fallen into the aniverse, and we follow his adventures with the aniverse’s answer to Nintendo’s Fox McCloud - - - Captain Bucky O’Hare! Bucky is the captain of the ship the Righteous Indignation and along with Deadeye, Jenny & Blinky they battle against the evil forces of the toad Empire (which are led by the out of control computer programme KOMPLEX).
The cartoon is based on the comic of the same name created in the 1970’s by Larry Hama. The cartoon only aired one series, which was shown in the US as ‘Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Menace’ and in the UK as ‘Bucky O’Hare and the Toad Wars’. There was a Nintendo computer game in the 90’s but other than this Bucky has only survived on in a series of web-sites.
Captain: Bucky O’Hare (Doug Parker)
Captain Bucky O’Hare is the captain of the ‘Righteous Indignation’. He is the green hare and action hero that leads the team against the Toad Menace. Bucky is one of several captains named throughout the series, including Commander Dogster ( of the Indefatigable) and Captain Mimi La Floo ( of the Screaming Mimi).
Engineer: Willy DeWit (Shane Meier)
When creating a photon accelerator at home, Willy is thrown across universes to be swapped with Bruiser’s brother Bruce, who was carrying out repairs on the Righteous Indignation’s photon accelerator.
Willy is from Earth, and a boy genius. He acts as the ships engineer, whilst helping Bucky fight the Toad Menace and find a way back home for Willy & Bruiser’s brother.
First Mate: Jenny (Margot Pinvidic)
Jenny is a cat from the planet Alderbran, like many of her race she has psychic/magical powers. The only member of the crew that knows she has these powers is Willy DeWit, he’s aware that she can heal, read minds and also produce some sort of psychic laser, flashing yellow thingy!
Marksman: Deadeye (Scott McNeil)
Deadeye the Duck is the ship’s marksman and gunner. As you can see from the picture he only has one-eye, but this does not stop him from being an expert marksmen.
Deadeye used to be a space-pirate, he is perhaps the most rascally of the team. Dead-Eye also has four arms, which are invaluable when using the ships gun.
Android: Blinky (Terry Klassen)
Blinky is the comedy character. He is an Android First Class, and so performs androidy type things aboard the ship. In general though, he just runs around needing rescuing and causing trouble!
Space Marine: Bruiser (Dale Wilson)
Bruiser was not a member of the original Bucky O'Hare comic, but joined the cartoon as a member of the Righteous Indignation's crew. Bruiser is a Betelgeusian Berserker Baboon who is loyal to Bucky and loves beating up toads!

In this the first ever episode we are introduced to Bucky O'Hare the lean, green captain of the ship the Righteous Indignation! Bucky's homeworld Warren, based in the Aniverse, has been conquered by the bad guys - the Toad Empire. Meanwhile, back in the universe a young geek called Willy deWitt from San Fransisco ends up in the Aniverse, due to the Righteous Indignation's photon accelerator being 'broken to bits!' 2. A Fistful of Simoleans
It turns out that Willy is a child prodigy and he manages to help fix the proton accelerator. Bruce's brother Bruiser joins the Righteous Indignation crew, and they journey to Bucky's homeworld. As they feared the Toad Empire has conquered Warren. The empire has invented a means of changnig a planet's climate(for the worse!) and so Warren is not in a good state. We are also introduced to another bad guy - Al Negator, he intends to help the Toad General attack another planet called Genus (by providing the codes to the planet's defense systems). 3. The Good, the Bad and the Warty
Bucky, Willy de Witt and the crew track down Al Negator to the Toad mothership, where they try to retrieve the defense codes. However they bite off more than they can chew - as they have to face the TOADBORG! a robo-toad with a bad attitude! The episode ends with Genus's defense systems incapacitated and the Toad Menace ready to pounce. 4. Home, Swampy, Home
Bucky infiltrates the toad empire in disguise as Angus McJump. He allows himself to be captured and taken to the prison planet of Kinnear where the Toad General is using slave hares (captured from Bucky's homeworld) to build another climate converter. We are also introduced to another United Animal Coalition captain - Captain Mimi La Floo of the Screaming Mimi. 5. On the Blink
The Koala homeworld has been captured by the Toad Menace and turned into a Butlins holiday resort for their soldiers. The crew of the Righteous Indignation attempt to free the enslaved planet. However they find that there is a shield around the planet that will only let cold-blooded animals (e.g. toads) onto the planet surface. Step-Up Blinky the robot! he is sent down to the planet to free the inhabitants from the inside!
6. Kreation Konspiracy
Whilst visiting the secret HQ of the S.P.A.C.E. Bucky and the crew ar eadvised that the Toad Empire are working on a matter converter. Meanwhile Blinky gets himself kidnapped by the three toad scientists that created KOMPLEX, Dr Croakley, Dr Wartimer and another one! These three villians want Blinky to guide them to Genus. Bucky and the crew have to push on and try to get the matter converter without Blinky, however they fail to get to Toxus 3 and reclaim the converter before the Toads do a runner with it!
7. The Komplex Caper
Willy discovers that the Toad Empire are planning on brain-washing the inhabitants of mammal spcae with a satellite that transmits ToadTV to all the mammal tv sets. The tv channel allows Komplex to mess with the mammals brainwaves and turn them into his mindless slaves. Of course Bucky and the gang are sent to stuff up this device!
8. The Search for Bruce
This episode is non-stop action from the start! The Righteous Indignation barely escape attack form a load of toad spaceships by flying through an asteroid field, before they are boarded by toads using a new 'toad transfer machine' a telelporter to you and me!
Now I probably should have mentioned this, but back in the beginning, Bruiser's brother, Bruce [who was an engineer also] got zapped off to another part of the Aniverse by that pesky broken photon accelerator! During this episode the toad's teleporter brings him partially back as a ghost type figure. He gains access to the toad's ship and manages to scare the toads into temporarily damaging their teleporter. 9. Corsair Canards
Deadey is a bit of a rogue. His old pirate gang, the Corsair Canards accept a treatyy with UAC, to join together and fight the toad menace. A spy working for the toad's hears of this and so the cunning toads, dress up as Corsair Canards and start attacking S.P.A.C.E. ships to try and sour the alliance between the Canards and UAC. 10. The Artificers of Aldebaran
This episode reveals a bit more about Jenny's background. We go back with Jenny to Aldebaran, her homeworld, where she tests Princess Felicia's abilities. The princess is upset when she is told she needs to go away and keep practicing. By coincidnce the ToadBorg finds a new powersource inside the DarkHeart nebula, butin order to navigate through the nebula he needs the skills of an Aldebaran native . . . he kidnaps Felicia. 11. The Warriors
This episode is great! Due to another bungled campaign, the Toad Geneal is demoted and Frix and Frax (pictured above) are put over him! In a bid to win the favour of Komplex back, the general teams up with Sly Lizard to build a set of satellites that will conquer Canopis 3 (DeadEye's homeworld) by drying up the planet entirely. However the one small hitch is that they don't know how to buildthese satellites, so they kidnap Willy De Witt. However DeadEye rescues Willy and foils the plan with the help of an old friend Kamikazee Kamo.
12. Bye Bye Berserker Baboon
ToadBorg is sick and tired of his troops being afraid of Berserker Baboons. The solution - a new set of goggles that make baboons look ike wimps! The toads, armed with their goggles, storm Beetleguise (the Baboon home planet) and capture Willy and Bruiser (who are there attending an award ceremony for Bruiser). 13. The Taking of Pilot Jenny
While on an asteroid patrol Jenny is captured by the Toad Menace! Bucky and the crew go to pay the ransom, but the dastardly ToadBorg carries out a double-cross and captures the whole crew! But never fear Colonel Dogstar comes to the rescue and between Dogstar's ship the Indefatigable and the Righteous Indigantion SPACE manage to crush the Toad Armada!!! Hooray!!!!
