As well as being the Tibetan name for Tibet, Bod was a BBC cartoon from the 70’s, that although I never got to watch it on tv myself - it does have a catchy theme tune! The show only ran for thirteen episodes, all of which starred a happy looking chap named Bod.
The show was based on a series of books written by Joanna and Michael Cole and was narrated by John Le Mesurier (who was also the voice of ‘Fred’ a cartoon character from a number of famous British flour adverts).
The great thing about Bod is not just its simplicity, but the fact that each of the character’s PC Copper, Aunt Flo, Farmer Barley-Mow etc. had their own catchy theme tunes. It was a really nice idea that has made the show stand the test of time.
Alberto Frog & his Amazing Animal Band! were regular attendees on the Bod cartoon. They generally appeared, played a piece of classical music and then Alberto could choose his reward (he got to choose his favourite milkshake!). Also the cartoon involved some sort of game or puzzle each time, e.g. 'Bod snap', for kids watching the cartoon to play along with. If you've never seen the show before I recommend you check out the official site mentioned in the resources section below, they are showing an entire episode. It's a really unique and charming cartoon that quite rightly is as popular with childrern today as when it was first made.
The Original Bod Books (published in 1966)
These four books: Bod and the Cherry Tree; Bod's Apple; Bod's Dream and Bod's Present were written by Michael Cole, illustrated by Joanna Cole and published by Metheun. They were read on the UK children's programme Playschool (and later Playdays) in the 1970s.
