Bananaman the Cartoon
Eric a seemingly normal schoolboy, lives at 29 Acacia Road. However when he eats a banana an amazing transformation occurs! Eric is Bananaman! Bananaman was great, it is was your typical action hero type storyline: a young, unremarkable boy transforms into an action superhero. Except there was a twist, Bananaman was actually pretty stupid! He still only had the intelligence of under-achiever Eric, and so he has to rely on his knowledgeable friend Crow.
Bananaman was a quirky cartoon, voiced by none other than the Goodies (Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke Taylor. The cartoon is based on a DC Thomson comic strip of the same name ( although in the comic Bananaman had red gloves, and Eric Twinge was called Eric Wimp). Bananaman’s enemies included Auntie, the Weatherman, Dr Gloom, Appleman and General Blight. |

This is the unassuming looking street where Eric lives. Acacia Avenue, Dandy Town. Bananaman is also a comic strip in the Dandy comic (hence Dandy Town). Eric lives here, and is 'Ever Alert for the call to Action!' |
Bananaman
Bananaman is largely based on the Superman character, with the big difference being that Bananaman, like Eric, is pretty stupid! He heavily relies on his side-kick, a Crow called Crow, who is the brains of the partnership. Crow also is often responsible for bringing Bananaman extra bananas at critical points throughout the cartoon. Genrally Bananaman is described as being 'As strong as 20 men, 20 Big Men!', but if required he can eat extra bananas for extra strength. |
Eric Twinge
Eric is the schoolboy that as a baby ate a bananana that contained Saturnium (placed there by General Blight), and this means that from now on, whenever he eats a Bananana, he turns into Bananaman! Often Eric will get called by Chief O'Reilly who asks Eric to pass on a message to his friend Bananaman (the chief is unaware of Eric's secret). In the comic strip Eric is known as Eric Wimp, and is actually from the Moon, he gets powers from banananas because of the fact that they look like a crescent moon. |
General Blight
Bananaman has numerous enemies, but General Blight is probably the central nemesis, with his side-kick Doctor Gloom.
